FAQ

I'm here to help and I'd love to hear from you!

How does your background in psychotherapy enhance your coaching services?

My coaching practice is shaped by my years as a licensed mental health counselor, giving me a deep insight into human behavior, emotional struggles, and the complex ways people grow and change. This experience enhances my coaching, allowing me to offer a more thoughtful, understanding, and creative approach. I focus on strategies that tackle both the emotional and practical sides of your goals. Having helped many individuals and couples, I’m skilled at dealing with a range of issues, from personal challenges to complicated relationship problems. My expertise translates into comprehensive guidance to help you improve your relationships, overcome obstacles, and reach your highest potential in life, work, and in love.

What is the focus of your coaching services?

My services focus on facilitating personal and professional growth, setting and achieving goals, and improving life, career, and relationship satisfaction. Unlike traditional psychotherapy, which often focuses on healing and recovery from past traumas and psychological disorders, coaching is centered in the present.  It's action-oriented and future-focused, aiming to unlock potential for maximizing desired change.

How are your coaching sessions structured, and how long until I see results?

Each session is tailored to the individual's or couple's goals and needs, leveraging my psychotherapy experience to offer a holistic and comprehensive approach. This means that while we focus on the present and actionable steps towards achieving your goals, we also consider underlying patterns that may be getting in the way of desired change.  This dual focus ensures a well-rounded and effective coaching experience.  Over time, sessions are a blend of focusing on the meta-topics that brought you in, blended with current moment concerns - there's an organic toggling back and forth between the both.

What can expect during a session with you?

Each session is lively and highly engaging. I'll listen closely, offer straightforward feedback, and suggest different ways to look at things. For example, we'll likely break down thoughts, patterns, and ideas and rebuild them in new ways.  For couples, I help guide you into new conversations together.  Expect the occasional bit of colorful language and, hopefully, plenty of laughter too.  Sessions are all about using the live energy, and creating a dynamic and supportive environment to help you move forward.

What are the similarities between psychotherapy and your coaching services?

There's overlap in maintaining the same ethical standards, including confidentiality and privacy in my coaching services that I adhered to in my clinical training and practice.  My skills of listening, assessing, and synthesizing information remains the same.  Lastly, intended outcomes of well-being, growth, and healing are the same.

How can I determine if your coaching services are right for me?

If you are looking to make positive changes in your life, personally, professionally, or relationally and are ready to take action then my coaching services may be a great fit for you.  My approach is especially beneficial for those who appreciate a coach with a deep understanding of the psychological aspects of change and growth.  I invite you to contact me for a consultation to discuss your needs and how I can support you in achieving them.

How much do your services cost?

My services are available by agreement, rather than by the hour.  All work together is customizable, and pricing depends upon the service agreement that's the best fit for your needs.  My services are retainer-based, meaning you have access to my support in between meetings.  I also offer priority scheduling; I generally work around your preferred schedule rather than asking you to conform to standard business hours.  Because my services are customized, pricing is higher than conventional psychotherapy rates.

There are two primary agreement structures for work together:

  • Monthly:  A set amount of time on the calendar each month (60, 90, or 120 min) which set up as an automatic payment at the beginning of the month.  This is a pay-as-you-go option with no minimum time commitment for enrollment and continues until our work is complete.

  • Pre-paid packages:  A timebank purchased at the beginning of our work together which allows for flexible scheduling along the way. You can schedule as frequently as you'd like and can vary session length as needed.  For example, if a 2-hour session is scheduled and our conversation is completed in 90 min, then that's the actual time that's deducted from your timebank.

Do you offer remote appointments?

Yes, I work with clients who are out of the area and all remote appointments are by phone and scheduled in PST.

How do remote appointments over the phone work for couples?

Each couple finds the phone configuration they prefer.  Some like to share the same phone, and put it on speaker.  Some like to connect via conference call using their own phone from separate location, including from a different room in the same house.  Occasionally people express concern that phone could be less effective than video for group calls, but ultimately the feedback has been that once we're underway, phone is less distracting than video and feels very normal.
